Job description

Job Title: Lifeguard (Security)

The Coon Rapids Emma B. Howe YMCA is seeking Certified Lifeguards. This role offers a flexible schedule, free Y membership, and more. If not currently certified, please apply to our available Lifeguard - In Training opportunities.

The starting salary is $16.00 per hour. The full-time benefits package includes medical, dental, life, disability insurance, and more, along with generous paid time off and free membership. Part-time benefits vary.

1. Job Summary:

The Lifeguard supervises the aquatics area to prevent accidents, assist swimmers, and respond to emergencies. Creates a safe, enjoyable, and positive atmosphere that promotes safety and satisfaction in accordance with YMCA policies. Oversees activities such as open swim, water exercise, swim lessons, and lap swimming.

2. Essential Functions:

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area, review all emergency procedures, and respond immediately to emergencies.
• Perform first aid as necessary and complete incident reports.
• Understand and communicate policies for the pool, whirlpool, and water safety.
• Attend monthly in-service trainings.

3. Relationships:

Reports to the Aquatics Director/Supervisor and interacts with staff, volunteers, and participants.

4. Qualifications:

• Minimum age of 15.
• Current nationally accredited lifeguard certification.
• Current BLS/CPR + AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications.
• Certification in Oxygen Administration required within 45 days of hire.
• Ability to perform all lifeguard skills and recognize distress signals.
• Effective communication skills with all ages.
• Dedication to safety and the YMCA mission.

5. Work Conditions:

• Pass lifeguard water test.
• Remain alert in warm environments.
• Perform physical rescues and communicate effectively.
