Job summary

Velo3D, Inc. seeks a Sr. Manager of Sustaining Process Engineering to lead a team responsible for qualifying, monitoring, and improving a fleet of LPBF metal 3D printers in production.

You will own the sustaining engineering function end-to-end, shaping technical strategy, growing a team, and partnering across Applications, Hardware, Software, and Manufacturing to ensure part quality as the fleet scales. You will oversee day-to-day qualification, set priorities, and drive improvements, while

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university.
• 6+ years of experience in advanced manufacturing, process engineering, or a related technical field with metal additive manufacturing/LPBF.
• 2+ years of experience directly managing or leading engineers, including hiring and performance management.
• Desire or experience scaling sustaining/qualification engineering in a high-growth manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills; excellent cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Process Engineers and Technicians for printer qualification, metrology, and continuous improvement across the fleet.
• Plan and prioritize sustaining process engineering, balancing new printer qualification, fleet health monitoring, and production troubleshooting.
• Set standards for experimental design, statistical rigor, and data-driven decisions across projects.
• Review qualification reports and root-cause investigations before release to stakeholders or customers.
• Manage the metrology lab and equipment across shifts; oversee technicians.
• Collaborate with Hardware and Software to validate new printer features and align priorities.
• Establish and maintain SOPs, checklists, and analysis guides; drive knowledge sharing.
