Job summary

Billerud NA in the United States invites a full-time paid co-op in our mill safety team designed to develop future engineering and leadership talent. The program runs 7–8 months, offering hands-on design, development, and support of safety protocols and reporting.

You'll work with safety engineers and business users, gain exposure to process optimization, equipment reliability, and cost reduction, and have pathways toward a full-time engineering role. Strong GPA and coursework preferred.

Qualifications

• Engineering curriculum with an interest in the Pulp, Paper and Packaging Industry.
• Minimum 2.75 GPA and three semesters completed prior to Co-op start date.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States; student visas do not qualify.

Responsibilities

• Provide safety expertise to support mill operations.
• Work on projects that improve equipment reliability, maintain the mill's infrastructure, and reduce overall costs.
• Assist with machine shutdowns and start-ups.
• Monitor, assess, analyze, and optimize process equipment.
• Monitor, assess, and analyze equipment variability.
• Reduce environmental impact.
• Provide technical support for key departments.
• Utilize problem solving and analytical skills to achieve department initiatives.
