Job summary

Billerud NA in Quinnesec, MI is offering an Industrial Safety Engineering Co-Op for 7-8 months, full-time paid, within the mill safety team. The co-op will interact with team members and business users to design, develop, configure, enhance, and support safety protocols and reporting.

You will gain hands-on experience, contribute to safety initiatives, machinery shutdowns/startups, and environmental impact reduction, while aiming to transition to a full-time engineering position.

Qualifications

• Engineering curriculum with an interest in the Pulp, Paper and Packaging Industry.
• Minimum GPA of 2.75.
• Must have completed three semesters of college education prior to Co-op start date.
• Must be available for one of two rotations (Jan–Aug or May–Dec).

Responsibilities

• Provide safety expertise to support mill operations.
• Work on projects that improve equipment reliability, maintain the mill’s infrastructure, and reduce overall costs.
• Assist with machine shutdowns and start-ups.
• Monitor, assess, analyze, and optimize process equipment.
• Monitor, assess, and analyze equipment variability.
• Reduce environmental impact.
• Provide technical support for key departments.
• Utilize problem solving and analytical skills to achieve department initiatives.
