Job summary

Duke University Health System is seeking Surgical Technologists to support sterile technique and intraoperative care for patients from infancy to geriatrics. The role includes setting up the operating room, passing instruments, and maintaining sterile environment under physician and RN supervision.

Levels I and II involve different experience requirements, with growth toward independent practice and teaching responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or maintains an accredited Surgical Technologist certification (NCCT or NBSTSA).
• Or evidence of successful completion of an appropriate Surgical Technology training program in the US Military.
• Level I requires 0–18 months of experience; Level II requires 6–12 months of experience.
• BLS certification is required for both Level I and II.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain sterile field and ensure sterile environment.
• Prepare Operating Room with instrumentation, equipment and supplies.
• Pass instruments safely and perform counts for sponges, needles and instruments.
• Assist with patient preparation and intraoperative support in OR and ambulatory settings.
