Job summary

UofL Health - Shelbyville Hospital in Shelbyville, KY is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the operating room team. You will prepare the sterile field, assist the surgeon and assistants, and help maintain patient safety throughout procedures.

Responsibilities include instrument handling, sponge and needle counts, room setup and turnover, and adherence to HIPAA and hospital policies. Education requirements include a high school diploma or GED and Surgical Technology training; BLS and Scrub

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of Surgical Technology training preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Scrub Tech Certification required.
• Prior patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operative area of the patient, drapes sterile field and maintains an aseptic environment.
• Passes instruments, sponges and sutures to surgeon and assistants; counts needles, sponges and instruments.
• Receives and handles surgical specimens as directed by surgeon.
• Prepares operating room for cases and assists with room turnover.
• Installs cleaning, reprocessing and storage of instruments and equipment.
• Obtains CEUs for certification.
