Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. is seeking a Surgical Technician for days/evenings with multiple shift openings in Birmingham, AL. The role involves preparing the OR, assisting the surgeon, maintaining sterile fields, and ensuring instrument readiness.

A $7,500 sign-on bonus is offered for experienced candidates. The position requires technical school/associates training in Surgical Technology (or Prac. Nursing) and 0–2 years OR experience; BCLS required, CST preferred.

• Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and aseptic techniques.
• Strong understanding of sterilization methods and infection prevention practices.
• Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly and effectively.

• Attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure procedural accuracy and efficiency.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment while maintaining professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and maintains the operating room for surgical cases, ensuring equipment, instruments and supplies are organized and available.
• Assists the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies accurately and efficiently.
• Handles surgical instruments per guidelines and ensures sterilization, inspection, and assembly.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts for patient safety.
• Assists in patient positioning, draping, and transfer for procedures.
• Keeps physician preference cards updated to ensure correct supplies and instruments.
