Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Surgical Step Down Unit on the night shift. You will provide professional nursing care per physician plans, assess patient needs, and document progress.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and assist in orientation of new staff. The role emphasizes patient-centered care, safety, and education for patients and families, with a focus on discharge planning and continuity of care.

Qualifications

• Two-year nursing program or higher required.
• Current NYS Registered Professional Nurse license.
• BLS, ACLS required; PALS/TNCC beneficial.
• TCAR certification for ICU/SDU roles; CAPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects patient health data with patient/family involvement.
• Performs initial assessments and documents findings.
• Supports age-specific and culturally aware care.
• Performs ongoing assessments per policy and patient response.
• Incorporates discharge planning into admission process.
• Develops and communicates plan of care with patient/family.
