Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Medical Step Down Unit (SDU) on a full-time, day shift. This role delivers professional nursing care per physician plans, assesses patient needs, plans and documents care, and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to support patient and family well-being.

Qualifications

• Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
• Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
• BLS certification and de-escalation training required; ACLS for ICU/ED areas.
• For ED/CCU: TCAR certification and PALS/TNCC as applicable (within first year).
• Minimum 1–2 years of relevant procedural/critical care experience may be required for some shifts.

Responsibilities

• Collects patient health data with patient and family involvement.
• Performs initial assessment based on presentation.
• Document the nursing plan of care and updates.
• Maintain safety and provide patient and family education.
• Develop and implement a plan of care with interdisciplinary team.
• Coordinate discharge planning and continuity of care.
• Assess cultural, spiritual, and age-specific needs.
• Communicate plan of care to patient, family, and team.
