Qualifications

• Education and Formal Training: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of Surgical Technologist Course from an Accredited CAHEA Program preferred.
• Work Experience: 1 year experience as a surgical technologist preferred.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Works with complex monitoring and life-saving equipment.
• Knowledge of Standard Precautions.
• Position involves contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific needs of patients.
• Demonstrates self-directed learning and achievement of clinical objectives.

Responsibilities

• Knows and follows aseptic techniques for scrub duties and support duties.
• Performs scrub duties as assigned in service areas.
• Assists in carrying out the patient’s plan of care within scope of practice.
• Access to medication/supply room to retrieve patient care items.
• Transports and/or escorts patients to various areas.
• Maintains readiness of instruments, equipment and supplies for operative cases.
• Fosters guest relations with the team, patients and families.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
• Supports patients’ cultural and spiritual beliefs within the plan of care.
• Adjusts patient care based on age-specific needs.
• Participates in educational and performance improvement activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
