Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Surgery Scheduler to coordinate procedures for multiple surgeons, secure dates and times, and manage operating room availability. The role involves preparing surgical packets, obtaining necessary authorizations, and communicating details clearly to patients and staff.

The ideal candidate has strong medical terminology knowledge, solid computer skills, and excellent communication abilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience as a surgery scheduler is preferred but not required.
• Strong medical terminology knowledge and computer skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and professional telephone etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Schedule inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures with physicians, hospitals, and ambulatory centers.
• Communicate surgery details with patients, including dates, times, arrival instructions, and required pre-op testing.
• Coordinate with departments and facility scheduling teams to avoid conflicts.
• Prepare and distribute surgical packets and documentation.
• Verify patient information, physician orders, and required authorizations or referrals.
• Schedule post-op appointments and ensure accurate ED/EMR records.
• Identify and resolve scheduling conflicts and changes promptly.
• Collaborate with staff to improve scheduling workflows and efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with office policies, HIPAA regulations, and payer requirements.
