Job summary

BMCHS is seeking a Grossing Technician to support Surgical Pathology and Mortuary Services. The role involves grossing specimens, assisting pathologists, and ensuring proper documentation and safety practices in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities include preparing tissues, handling autopsy tasks, and coordinating with pathology staff to ensure timely processing and quality control. A strong emphasis on accuracy, communication, and adherence to safety protocols is required.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Basic computer proficiency including data entry and interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and gross small surgical, biopsy and autopsy specimens.
• Process frozen sections, stain and prepare tissue for pathology evaluation.
• Maintain clean and organized dissection suites; inventory and stock supplies.
• Assist with materials management and delivery of consumables to labs.
• Support mortuary and decedent affairs tasks including death certificates and body release.
• Assist autopsy procedures and data recording; photograph and archive specimens.
• Adhere to universal precautions and infection control procedures.

Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology

Associate degree in laboratory science

ABHES/NAACLA certified training or equivalent

3 months documented lab training in high complexity testing

Associate’s degree + 2 years experience preferred
