Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare is seeking a Grossing Tech to support tissue processing and surgical pathology workflows in our Houston lab. You will perform gross examinations, dissection, tissue descriptions, and dictations with accuracy and adherence to procedures.

In this role you will train and educate laboratory personnel, maintain and troubleshoot equipment, and assist with digital photography, storage of files, and QA activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a science-related field from an accredited university
• Graduate of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant Training Program and be an AAPA Fellow or eligible
• 1 year of histology and/or grossing experience required
• Experience with grossing routine specimens (gallbladder, appendix, uterus, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Performs gross examinations, dissection, and description of tissues according to procedures
• Manages workload to meet Turn-Around-Time (TAT) and specimen requirements
• Trains and educates laboratory personnel in processing of surgical tissues
• Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots all equipment with service support as required
• Maintains digital equipment, and assists with uploading and storage of digital files
• Keeps gross room, frozen section areas, and tissue storage areas clean and organized
• Ensures compliance with guidelines and accreditation standards
• Communicates effectively with supervisors and medical staff regarding problems and procedures
