Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Grossing Technician to support the Pathology Lab. You will gross and dissect surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens, assist pathologists, and help manage supplies and equipment in the dissection suite.

The role includes mortuary services support, autopsy assistance, and collaboration with the Decedent Affairs Office to ensure proper paperwork and body release processes are followed with sensitivity and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or equivalent associate degree in lab science with required coursework.
• Laboratory training program approved by ABHES/NAACLA or equivalent.
• Education/training equivalent and 60 semester hours with MLT-related coursework; 2 years' experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Gross and dissect small surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens per SOPs.
• Perform histology duties including organizing, cutting frozen sections, staining; prep tissue for pathology review.
• Obtain patient history and tissue type for specimens missing information.
• Manage daily operations of the surgical pathology dissection suite.
• Maintain cleanliness, inventory supplies, and calibrate equipment; monitor and clean instruments.
• Assist with Decedent Affairs: mortuary handling, death certificates, and related paperwork; support autopsy processes.
