Job summary

Bluegrass Specialty Surgery Center is seeking an experienced Surgical First Assistant to join our operating room team. The role supports safe, efficient surgeries and an excellent patient and physician experience.

The candidate will help prepare the OR, assist with positioning, pass instruments, manage hemostasis, and maintain sterile technique throughout procedures. Strong communication and teamwork are essential for success in a fast-paced ambulatory setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completed an accredited surgical technician program.
• Operating room experience.
• Graduates of CAAHEP accredited programs should obtain CSA or CFA certification.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room, instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and draping while maintaining sterile technique.
• Assist the surgeon by passing instruments and supporting visualization of the surgical field.
• Assist with hemostasis and wound closure using sutures or staples.
• Assist with suction, drainage, and irrigation during procedures.
• Assist with splint and cast application as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate counts and prepare instrument sets and trays.
• Communicate patient status changes to the RN promptly.
• Cross-train with central processing, decontamination, and autoclaving.
• Support OR turnover and keep rooms prepared and on schedule.
