Job summary

AdventHealth in Florida is seeking a skilled Surgical First Assistant to join our OR team. This role uses physician preference cards to set up operating suites, select equipment, and assist with patient positioning and sterile technique.

You will work closely with surgeons, maintain asepsis, perform instrument counts, and support safe patient care from prep to close, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred; high school diploma required.
• BLS CPR certification required.
• Surgical technology basics and sterile technique knowledge.
• 2+ years of relevant work experience preferred.
• Certification or training in surgical assisting preferred.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Set up operating suites per physician preference cards.
• Determine appropriate surgical equipment and supplies.
• Maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning and safety.
• Handle instruments, counts, and supplies during surgery.
• Verify site and patient identity during time-out.
