Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Surgical First Assistant to participate in the preparatory steps of surgery, ensure supplies are ready, and assist the operating team throughout procedures. The role involves maintaining a sterile environment, handling instruments, and supporting the surgeon to deliver optimal patient care.

Qualified candidates will have a Surgical Technology program, BLS certification, and about 3 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required (AHA).
• Advanced Surgical Technology training completed.
• 3 years of experience as Surgical Technologist/Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparatory steps and gather supplies for surgery.
• Ensure availability of required supplies and maintain sterile field.
• Set up and clean operating room and equipment; assist surgeon as needed.
• Train Surgical Technologists and Assistants; participate in department projects.
• Adhere to safety protocols and document competencies as directed.
