Job summary

AdventHealth Zephyrhills is seeking a Surgical Technologist to set up operating suites, select instruments, and assist surgeons during procedures in a full-time day-shift role in Florida.

You will support sterile technique, patient safety, and team collaboration with physicians and nurses. Requires high school diploma; associate degree preferred; BLS and CSA/CSFA or equivalents; prior OR tech experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to prepare surgical suites with appropriate instruments, resources, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards.
• Knowledge of instruments, supplies, and equipment utilized for surgical procedures.
• Understanding of the procedures being performed and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
• Strong physician/surgeon relationship skills and team mentality.
• Up-to-date knowledge of patient rights and ability to respect values.
• Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and accreditation standards.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and staff.
• Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes physician preference cards to set up operating suites and updates cards as instructed.
• Determines appropriate surgical equipment and supplies based on physician preferences.
• Achieves temporary and permanent hemostasis using appropriate techniques.
• Assists with body plane closures, wound dressing applications, and securing drainage systems.
• Provides visualization for operative sites through tissue manipulation, retraction, suction, and irrigation.
• Handles instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures, anticipating needs of the surgeon.
• Assists with positioning patients and prioritizing safety.
• Maintains aseptic technique and monitors team for breaks in technique.
• Performs instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with circulator.
• Participates in surgical site and patient verification during time-out procedure.
• Measures and passes medications and irrigation solutions during procedures.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization and transport.
