Job summary

AdventHealth in Shawnee Mission, KS, is seeking a Surgical First Assistant/Surgical Technologist to support operating room teams on day shifts. You will prepare suites, select instruments, and assist with hemostasis and patient positioning while maintaining aseptic technique.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, CSFA/SA-C/CSA certifications preferred, and 2+ years of OR experience. BLS/CPR required.

Qualifications

• Ability to prepare surgical suites with surgeon preferences.
• Knowledge of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Understand procedures and anticipate surgeon needs.
• Strong physician/surgeon relationship and teamwork.
• Knowledge of patient rights and cultural values.
• Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory standards and requirements.
• Ability to communicate with patients and hospital staff.
• Must read, write and speak conversational English.
• Basic computer skills and MS Office.
• First assistant experience (preferred).
• Anatomy knowledge (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Sets up operating suites based on physician preferences.
• Selects surgical equipment and supplies per preferences.
• Achieves hemostasis using appropriate techniques.
• Assists with wound closures, dressings, and drainage.
• Provides visualization of operative sites through tissue manipulation.
• Handles instruments during procedures, anticipating surgeon needs.
• Assists with patient positioning and safety.
• Maintains aseptic technique and monitors for breaks in technique.
• Performs instrument, sharps, and sponge counts.
• Participates in site verification during time-out procedure.
• Measures and passes medications and solutions during procedures.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization and transport.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
