Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist/Surgical Assistant to join the operating room team in Milwaukee. The role involves preparing cases, gathering supplies, assisting in patient positioning, and working under the direct supervision of the surgeon.

A minimum of three years of Surgical Technologist/Assistant experience and an accredited Surgical Technology program are required. BLS certification must be current, with ongoing competency expectations.

Qualifications

• Requires advanced training beyond high school in a Surgical Technology program.
• Typically 3 years of experience as Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required; ongoing competency.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques and patient safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Assists the operating team with prep, supplies, room readiness, and patient positioning.
• Ensures availability of required supplies and anticipates surgeon needs.
• Maintains clean, safe, and sterile operating room environment and sterile field.
• Operates and maintains OR equipment and reports malfunctions.
• Mentors Surgical Technologists and new Surgical Assistants as needed.
• Performs validated surgical activities under direct supervision of the surgeon.
• Adheres to age-specific patient care practices and department policies.
