Job summary

Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital is seeking a Surgical Assistant to support inpatient surgery. The role includes assisting in the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring patient safety.

The position requires completion of a Surgical Assistant Program and a high school diploma, with BLS/CSFA certifications preferred. On-site duties include rotating day shifts, on-call coverage, and collaboration with the surgical team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a Surgical Assistant Program is required.
• One year health care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving per policy.
• Acts as first or second assist on cases and maintains sterile technique.
• Communicates effectively with circulating nurse and reports instrument issues.
• Assists with OR case prep, draping, and sterile field maintenance.
• Supports patient care quality and departmental goals.
• Takes call as required by department.
