Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a Surgical Assistant Program is required.
• BLS Basic Life Support is preferred on hire and must be obtained before direct patient care.
• CSA certification is required (NBSTSA/NSAA/NCCSA).

Responsibilities

• Performs surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving per policy.
• Functions as first or second assist on cases; supports sterile technique and counts.
• Protects patient information and participates in Universal Protocol for correct-site surgery.
• Assists with OR case prep, equipment procurement, and sterile field maintenance.
• Assists with patient positioning, clipping, prepping, and draping.
• May insert trocars, use power equipment, and assist with wound closure under surgeon supervision.
