Job summary

Advocate Condell Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Assistant to function as the first or second assistant to the surgeon for complex procedures. Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, gathering supplies, lifting and positioning the patient, and maintaining aseptic technique in a high-pressure environment.

The role requires certification as a Surgical Assistant, CPR, and prior OR experience, with the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Certification as Surgical Assistant required; must obtain within 30 days.
• Previous operating room experience required.
• CPR certification required.
• Willingness to work with exposures to body fluids, chemicals, radiation.
• On-call availability including nights, weekends, holidays.
• Ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
• Ability to work in high-stress environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide first or second assisting for specified surgical procedures.
• Prep surgery steps; gather supplies; assist in lifting/transferring/positioning/draping patient.
• Anticipates and responds to Surgeon needs; ensure supplies available prior to incision.
• Maintain sterile OR environment using aseptic technique.
• Ensure equipment and supplies are available and functional for the OR suite.
• Act as a resource and assist in training Surgical Technologists and new Surgical Assistants.
• Participate in department and facility work teams and assist with special projects.
• Lift up to 35 pounds; use patient handling equipment if needed.
