Job summary

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a Surgical First/Second Assistant to support surgeons in complex and basic procedures. The role requires ensuring supplies and assisting in operations.

You will train Surgical Technologists and new Surgical Assistants, with on-site scheduling 0700-1530, M-F, on-call obligations. Willing to train experienced staff.

Required: BLS, CST/CSFA/CSA certifications within 12 months or as determined by leadership; typically 3 years of surgical tech/assistant experience.

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience in a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant position.
• Experience assisting in both complex and basic procedures.
• Ability to train Surgical Technologists and new Surgical Assistants.

Responsibilities

• Functions as Surgical First or Second Assistant to the surgeon for complex and basic procedures.
• Anticipates and responds to the needs of the Surgeon, ensuring supplies are available for procedures prior to incision.
• Perform wound closure of deep capsules, muscle, subcutaneous tissue and skin under supervision.
• Position and prep of patient on the surgical table.
• Act as a resource and assist in training of Surgical Technologists and new Surgical Assistants.
