Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Surgical Assistant for the Condell Medical Center operating room in Libertyville. The role supports the surgeon as a first or second assistant during complex and basic procedures, and may specialize in a surgical area where appropriate.

You will work full time with day and rotating call shifts, including on-call nights, weekends, and holidays. Certification as Surgical Assistant and CPR are required, with readiness to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Certification as Surgical Assistant is required.
• Previous OR experience is required.
• CPR Certification is required.
• Certification as Surgical Assistant within 30 days of hire.
• Willingness to work with exposures to body fluids, waste and chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, anesthesia gases and life threatening diseases.
• On-call availability including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide first or second assisting for specified surgical procedures for patients of all ages.
• Participate in preparatory steps of surgery and assist the operating team in gathering supplies and positioning.
• Anticipate and respond to Surgeon needs, ensuring supplies are available prior to incision.
• Assist in maintaining a sterile OR environment using aseptic techniques.
• Ensure equipment and supplies are available and functional for the OR suite.
• Train Surgical Technologists and new Surgical Assistants; participate in department projects.
