The University of Miami UHealth - Department of Surgery at SoLÃ Mia has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Surgery Scheduler 1.

The Surgery Scheduler 1 will be responsible for managing information related to clinical coordination and scheduling of surgical procedures, efficiently entering cases into the surgical scheduling system, and coordinating the reassignment of surgical block time. The role involves direct interaction with physicians on campus and in the community, as well as ARNPs and RNs, to ensure smooth clinical operations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (For Non-exempt Employees, include Percent of Effort):

• Creates and maintains daily schedules and completes edits promptly.
• Prepares necessary paperwork prior to pre-op appointments, including updating the surgery log immediately after confirming surgeries with patients.
• Monitors cancellations of physician surgical schedules.
• Obtains referrals and authorizations from PCPs or insurance providers.
• Coordinates pre-op testing with outside medical providers, such as blood work, EKG, and medical clearance, in a timely manner.
• Follows up with medical offices and imaging technicians to ensure all pre-op results are received promptly to facilitate timely procedures.
• Informs patients about activities during their visit and provides patient pamphlets to the surgical facility.
• Works closely with front desk staff when discharged patients need surgery scheduling to ensure efficient patient flow.
• Adheres to policies and procedures concerning registration.
• Informs patients of their financial responsibilities when appropriate (self-pay, non-contracted insurance, etc.).
• Maintains effective communication with patients, physicians, staff, and community physicians and their staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Core Qualifications

Education Requirements (Essential):

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate Degree preferred.

Work Experience Requirements (Essential):

• At least 1 year of relevant experience in a medical office, surgical coordination, or insurance verification required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient in operating computer systems for data entry and retrieval.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with physicians, staff, and patients of all ages and needs.
• Team-oriented with a pleasant personality and speaking voice.
