The University of Miami UHealth - Orthopedic Sports Medicine at SoLé Mia has an exciting opportunity for a Surgery Scheduler 2.

The Surgery Scheduler 2 (H) acts as a liaison between patients, professional staff, and physicians by scheduling and coordinating all necessary functions for surgical and diagnostic procedures. Additionally, the Surgery Scheduler 2 (H) oversees scheduling staff functions to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Core Job Functions

1. Obtains pre-authorizations for procedures as required by insurance companies.
2. Oversees, produces, and distributes all surgical and procedural schedules to physicians and departments.
3. Collaborates with patients, families, staff, and providers to schedule surgeries, pre-op physicals, and testing.
4. Coordinates with hospitals and vendors for special cases or circumstances.
5. Identifies ways to streamline the surgical scheduling process and provides suggestions to management.
6. Ensures electronic systems and scheduling tools are up-to-date and functioning properly, contacting personnel to resolve issues.
7. Ensures documentation is complete for accurate billing of surgical procedures.
8. Adheres to University and unit policies and safeguards assets.

Department Specific Functions

1. Assist Clinical Program Coordinator with surgical projects
2. Adjust surgical and case schedules as needed
3. Coordinate joint surgeries by multiple surgeons
4. Work with the Department of Orthopaedics to assign OR time
5. Schedule surgeries requiring knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes
6. Schedule clinic visits pre- and post-operatively
7. Coordinate with providers for medical clearances
8. Collaborate with other departments for patient preparation
9. Coordinate with surgical instrumentation reps for supplies
10. Serve as secondary contact for post-op patient care
11. Assist with maximizing reimbursements and obtaining authorizations
12. Help with obtaining insurance authorizations for additional procedures
