Job summary

U.S. Electrical Testing is seeking a field-based technician to inspect, test, troubleshoot, maintain and repair low to medium voltage equipment. You will work at the Blue Plains facility in Washington, DC, with some local travel.

Emphasis on safety, adherence to NFPA/NEC, and proficient use of electrical test equipment. The role involves hands-on work on breakers, transformers, switches, relays, and motor control centers in both field and shop environments, contributing to project success and

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with 2+ years of experience.
  • Must have/obtain NETA/AVO NICET or equivalent certification in substation testing and maintenance within 12 months.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic theory and ability to diagnose complex equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics; interpret blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Perform substation inspections per regulations.
  • Provide preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and test equipment, breakers, and systems per procedures.
  • Operate power distribution systems up to 69 kV.
  • Take infrared images to identify problems.
  • Maintain tools and equipment for testing, repair, and replacement.
  • Follow PPE, Lock-Out-Tag-Out, Arc Flash, and confined-space protocols.
