Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Substation Technician to build, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage substation equipment for safe and reliable power delivery in the Wisconsin area.

Responsibilities include inspection, testing, and repair of transformers, breakers, and relays; cabling and grounding work; diagram interpretation; and energization support. Travel, safety commitment, and adherence to OSHA standards are essential.

Qualifications

• Two years minimum electrical/substation experience or related field.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and diagrams.
• Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems and safe work practices.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred or able to obtain.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights.
• Willingness to travel for project assignments.
• Strong safety, quality, teamwork, and customer service mindset.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, test, and repair transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and related substation equipment.
• Install, terminate, and troubleshoot power, control, and communication cables.
• Construct and install grounding systems, steel structures, conduit, and other substation infrastructure.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings.
• Execute approved switching procedures and assist with energization, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to identify and correct equipment failures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, testing, and inspection records.
• Follow all OSHA, company, client, and project safety requirements while utilizing required PPE.
• Respond to emergency outages and support restoration efforts as needed.
