Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Substation Technician to construct, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage substation equipment to ensure safe and reliable power delivery.

Responsibilities include inspecting and servicing transformers, breakers, relays, and capacitors, installing cables, and interpreting schematics. Travel may be required; strong safety culture and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Technical/educational degree in Electrical Technology preferred.
• Minimum two years of electrical/substation experience; apprenticeship preferred.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of high-voltage systems and safe work practices.
• Valid driver's license; Class A CDL preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights in varying weather.
• Commitment to safety, quality, teamwork and customer service.
• Willingness to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, test, and repair transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and capacitors.
• Install, terminate, and troubleshoot power, control, and communications cables.
• Construct grounding systems, structures, conduit, and substation infrastructure.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Follow approved switching procedures and assist energization and commissioning.
• Troubleshoot faults and maintain records of maintenance and testing.
• Respond to outages and assist with restoration efforts as needed.
