Job summary

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Substation Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery Substation Civil/Structural Group. This role supports projects across Freeport, ME or Hallowell, ME; New York; Michigan; and Ohio locations, contributing to design, analysis, and documentation of load-bearing structures for electrical substations.

The ideal candidate has a structural/civil engineering background with 1–3 years of post-education experience, proficiency in design software, and strong

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
• Prior design experience preferred (engineering context)
• Engineer in Training certification is a plus
• Experience with structural analysis and design software
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
• Understanding of codes, standards, and project documentation

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, analysis, design, and delivery of structural solutions for substation projects
• Collect, compile, and analyze data from sites, surveys, GIS data, and drawings
• Support development of design concepts and construction documents
• Prepare technical reports, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations
• Assist with risk assessment, mitigation, and project coordination
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and authorities across multiple regions
• Support training and work plan development for site activities
• Ensure compliance with safety, codes, and company policies

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering

Engineer in Training Certification

Analytical mindset

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Technical writing, office automation, software, math principles

Experience with discipline-specific design software
