Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV and EHV substations. You will lead design efforts, mentor staff, coordinate with clients and vendors, and provide guidance through detailed engineering work.

The role supports hybrid work with three days in the office and potential relocation assistance, plus opportunities for travel to client sites and reviews

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree is required.
• 12+ years experience designing substations at 138kV and above.
• PE license.
• Experience as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role.
• Experience with relay calculations documentation.
• Experience with producing technical plans, blueprints and drawings.
• Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, CDEGS or vendor software.
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI codes.
• Experience with SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler protective relays.
• MS Office proficiency.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation protection and controls design efforts.
• Prepare relay calculations documentation and studies.
• Guide junior and senior engineers and designers.
• Coordinate reviews with clients, projects managers and vendors.
• Analyze single line diagrams, relaying and metering diagrams.
• Perform design reviews and field verifications as needed.
• Mentor engineers and participate in knowledge sharing.
• Travel to client/vendor offices or plant sites as needed.
