Job summary

Michels Power, Inc. is seeking a Preconstruction Project Manager - Substations to lead the preconstruction phase for utility, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, and EPC substations.

You’ll coordinate between business development, estimators, engineers, procurement, contracts, and operations to ensure projects are properly evaluated, budgeted, scheduled, permitted, and prepared for successful execution. Up to 25% travel required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
• Experience with utility substation, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, or EPC projects
• Experience in estimating, budgeting, scheduling, procurement coordination, or project management
• Ability to lead preconstruction planning including scope, budget, schedule, and risk assessment
• Experience facilitating bid reviews, handoffs, kickoff meetings, startup planning, and readiness reviews
• Proficiency with BIM and design-build/EPC methodologies is preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication and stakeholder coordination skills
• Willingness to travel up to 25% as needed

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction planning: scope, budget, schedule, procurement, risk assessment
• Coordinate handoffs between business development, estimating, engineering, procurement, contracts, and operations
• Facilitate reviews, kickoff meetings, and readiness assessments
• Support contract review and execution with consistency in terms and requirements
• Coordinate permitting, procurement, subcontracting, and mobilization readiness
• Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies for safe, profitable projects
• Manage relationships with internal teams and external suppliers
