Job summary

Tidewater Community College seeks a Progress Specialist at the Portsmouth Campus to support student success and retention. The role focuses on early intervention for at-risk students, with outreach via phone, text, and email, and coordination with tutoring, counseling, and financial aid services.

The position is grant-funded, part-time (25 hours per week), with a schedule of 9am-3:30pm on Mon, Tue, and Thu, and 9am-4:30pm on Wed, located on campus in Portsmouth.

Qualifications

• Experience in academic advising, retention, student success, or a related area.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse student populations.
• Knowledge of Pell-eligible and underserved student populations.

Responsibilities

• Revise and relaunch early alert and academic progress programs for gateway courses.
• Monitor alerts and performance of at-risk students using institutional data systems.
• Track credit accumulation and engage students not progressing toward 12 credits.
• Conduct targeted outreach via phone, text, and email to disengaged students.
• Refer students to tutoring, counseling, financial aid, and other services.
• Design and host small-group workshops on recovery and college navigation.
• Generate and analyze retention reports to inform interventions.
