Job summary

Tidewater Community College seeks an Education Support Assistant to provide tutoring in English and writing, supporting student achievement across Portsmouth campuses. The role focuses on developing study strategies, assisting with basic computer literacy, and partnering with instructors to offer targeted workshops.

Successful candidates will have strong communication skills, experience with diverse students, and a commitment to FERPA compliance.

Qualifications

Significant knowledge of College Composition I and II concepts including grammar and argumentation.
Must have obtained an A or B in the course(s) for which tutoring will be performed.
Excellent verbal, written, and technical communication skills.
Ability to translate learning strategies into collaborative tutoring sessions.
Ability to protect student privacy and FERPA compliance.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience delivering customer service to a diverse student body.
Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.

Responsibilities

Meet with students one-to-one or in small groups to provide English and writing support.
Tutor students in basic computer literacy, including Canvas access and document creation.
Help develop study strategies and utilize available learning resources.
Participate in tutor training, team meetings, and professional development.
Collaborate with instructors to offer workshops and outreach in classrooms.
Maintain knowledge of campus resources and learning centers.
Assist with additional duties as assigned.
