Job summary

Tidewater Community College in Norfolk is seeking a Part-Time Progress Specialist (Remediation/Retention) to support student success by identifying at-risk students and delivering proactive outreach.

The role focuses on early intervention for students not progressing toward 12 earned credits, coordinating with tutoring and advising, and contributing to retention campaigns. 25 hours per week; on-site at Norfolk campus.

Qualifications

• Experience in academic advising, retention, or related area.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Pell-eligible and underserved student populations.

Responsibilities

• Revise and relaunch early alert programs focusing on gateway English and Math.
• Monitor alerts and performance of at-risk students using institutional data.
• Track credit accumulation and engage students not progressing toward 12 credits.
• Outreach via phone, text, and email to disengaged students.
• Provide proactive support to re-engage students.
• Refer students to tutoring, counseling, financial aid, coaching, and services.
• Serve as liaison between students and campus resources.
• Design and host small-group workshops on recovery and navigation.
• Participate in retention meetings and campus campaigns.
• Generate retention risk reports to inform outreach.
