Job summary

Kentwood Public Schools is seeking an Academic Interventionist to support reading, language arts and mathematics through small-group and one-on-one instruction across a 38-week schedule. The role includes program implementation, material preparation, and assisting with assessments while maintaining a safe, supportive classroom.

The position requires collaboration with teachers, supervision of non-instructional activities, and involvement in IEP processes to promote inclusive education.

Qualifications

• Build supportive relationships with students with special needs
• Establish cooperative working relationships with staff
• Report work to supervisor (oral or written)

Responsibilities

• Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction and other skills.
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning and implement programs.
• Assist staff with administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Prepare and adapt instructional materials to support individual needs.
• Keep records documenting student learning and performance.
• Support classroom behavioral management to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
• Supervise non-instructional areas (lunch, bus duty, playground, study halls).
• Accompany students on field trips to assist with supervision.
• Assist with parent contact to foster involvement in education.
• Support students with special needs to maximize inclusive participation.
• Participate in IEP processes as needed and assist with evaluation teams.
• Assist students with activities of daily living as needed.
• Follow safety rules and regulations; maintain regular attendance.
