Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members mentor and coach students across elementary, middle and high school levels to help them achieve academic success, improve attendance and develop positive behaviors. Training is provided (2–4 weeks) at the start, with ongoing collaboration with teachers and school staff.

You will plan and monitor student progress, support classroom instruction, and contribute to whole-school initiatives that foster engagement for students and families.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• GED or high school diploma, some college, or college degree
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025
• Willing to undergo a background check

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math activities by student level
• Create and implement a behavior management system
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record, analyze and monitor progress
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space
• Support after-school and enrichment programs
