Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to improve academic success, attendance, and behavior. You will plan and monitor progress, collaborate with teachers on classroom activities, and support school-wide initiatives.

Training is provided, with 2-4 weeks at the start, and you’ll receive a bi-weekly living stipend along with comprehensive AmeriCorps benefits and relocation support. Start by July/August 2025 in participating locations.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (DACA status not eligible)
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms
• Background check required
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring elementary, middle and/or high school students
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and work with teachers on in-class activities
• Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
• Support and/or conduct extended day and virtual programming for students before, during and after school
• Assist in recognizing and celebrating student growth in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior
