Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps is seeking entry-level members to coach and mentor students in K-12 settings. This full-time, paid role provides training and a regular stipend while you help students improve attendance, literacy, and behavior. You will plan activities, support teachers, and contribute to in-class and school-wide initiatives.

Expect 2–4 weeks of training at year start, with ongoing supervision and meaningful educational benefits through AmeriCorps.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Support literacy and math skill development through varied activities.
• Create and apply behavior management strategies in class.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress and data.
• Help implement engaging, safe, and inclusive classroom spaces.
• Assist with school-wide initiatives to boost student engagement.
