Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to help them achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors. Training is provided, and you’ll work with teachers on in-class activities and whole-school initiatives.

You will plan individualized progress, support literacy and math skills, and help create a safe, engaging classroom environment in partnership with staff. Eligibility includes a GED or high school diploma.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; 2–4 weeks of training at the start of the year.
• Ability to work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Willingness to collaborate with teachers and school staff.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle and/or high school students.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and encourage assignment completion.
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space with teachers.
• Support and/or conduct extended day and virtual programs for students.
