Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Student Special Services Advocate to support at-risk students and school-aged parents by connecting them with social, educational, and job training services.

You will review records, counsel clients, build resource networks, assist enrollment in GED and evening courses, and coordinate with employers to allow continued education. You will maintain files and report outcomes to program funders.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited educational institution with an Associate's degree, or completion of two years of college coursework with four years of experience in social service organizations.

Responsibilities

• Review school records and identify and counsel at-risk young adults and school-aged parents who dropped out to encourage return to school.
• Confer with counselors and clients to establish educational programs suitable to the parents' lifestyles.
• Develop resource networks and accompany clients to social service agencies providing referrals.
• Assist clients in enrolling in GED courses, evening school courses, and job training programs.
• Coordinate with employers to discuss reducing work hours to support continued education.
• Maintain client case files and provide follow-up services.
• Prepare periodic activity reports for supervisory staff and funding sources.
• Meet with community organizations to distribute literature and explain available services.
• Counsel student-athletes to ensure they meet college entrance requirements.
