Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Thrive Advisor to provide direct student support to an assigned caseload and to teach up to 4 sections of a 1-credit hour course, First-Year Thriving. The role requires collaboration with campus staff and faculty to maximize student engagement and success.

Ideal candidates hold a relevant degree, demonstrate commitment to liberal arts education, and show strong communication, organization and cultural competence.

Qualifications

• Minimum SACS qualifications to be appointed as a fixed-term faculty.
• Two years of professional direct student support and programming experience.
• Appreciation and understanding of a liberal arts education.
• Experience or training in social justice, diversity and/or cultural competence with a strong interest in continued professional development in these areas.
• Familiarity with the academic, wellness, engagement and financial challenges faced by undergraduates.
• Excellent judgment, sound decision-making skills and respect for confidentiality.
• Ability to take initiative, and work independently and in a team environment with limited supervision.
• Strong organizational skills to prioritize work and needs of students within assigned caseload.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships and working collaboratively with staff and colleagues.
• Flexibility to evolve with a dynamic environment and ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and positive attitude during lengthy periods of high volume, intensive work.
• Ability to utilize and/or learn various student services and software applications, learning platforms, and technology-based delivery systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct student support to an assigned caseload of students and help unlock their potential.
• Teach up to 4 sections of First-Year Thriving, a 1-credit hour course.
• Meet minimum SACS Accreditation requirements for instruction.
• Collaborate with campus staff and faculty to eliminate barriers to student success and ensure learners thrive.
