Job summary

Halifax Community College is seeking an Academic Advising Coach to coordinate advising activities within the Academic Success Center. The role includes managing early warning alerts, attendance and midterm reports, and guiding students through graduation planning and major selection.

The position emphasizes counseling, retention strategies, and collaboration with faculty and staff to promote student success and engagement across college programs and pathways.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Education, Human Services, or related field required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, or student support services.
• Experience with high-risk student populations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide face-to-face assistance with financial aid applications and graduation plans.
• Coordinate and distribute early warning grade alerts, attendance reports, and midterm grade reports.
• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions addressing educational, social, tutoring, and career-related needs.
• Assist students with selecting college majors, course scheduling, and organizing campus visits to 4-year institutions.
• Facilitate financial aid, scholarship, and college application workshops.
• Maintain accurate student records and complete needs assessments and graduation plans.
• Plan and facilitate ASC orientation workshops for faculty, staff, and students.
• Engage in professional development and collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to enhance student support.
