Department OFFICE OF STUDENT LIFE ADMIN (BL-DSAA-IUBLA)Department Information

The Dean of Students Office is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's Indiana University experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Dean of Students Office staff and multiple departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. Students are our priority, and their health, safety, and overall well-being are our core mission.


Department Specific Responsibilities

Serves as the primary point of contact for calls and visitors to the Dean of Students Office, responds to inquiries and requests and makes referrals to appropriate individuals or University offices. Provides administrative support to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Life and Dean of Students, Associate Vice Chancellor for Involvement and Belonging, and Assistant Deans, exercising confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy. Schedules and confirms appointments, manages calendars, evaluates request for meetings, and schedules travel arrangements. Assists with special projects; conducts research projects on student life initiatives as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellors, prepares routine and non-routine reports including gathering and summarizing data. Supports and trains student front-desk reception staff. Maintains strict confidentiality and greets all guests and callers with a calm and respectful demeanor.


General Responsibilities

Assists with administrative needs related to the daily operations, planning, and implementation of various or multiple student services initiatives. Performs duties such as attending a front desk, answering phones and email, and delivering messages and mail. Serves as a liaison to campus partners for cross-departmental student services initiatives, providing information, securing space reservations, scheduling planning meetings, and providing necessary documentation. Provides assistance to student participants, stakeholders, faculty, and/or staff; acts as a resource by analyzing information, providing documentation, and preparing reports. Accurately maintains electronic records and databases. Provides directions, support, and information to student organization representatives and other visitors to the department. Assists with daily scheduling, training, and gathering of student feedback. May prepare and disseminate handouts, presentations, or other materials. May assist with ordering or creation of promotional materials for student organizations or departmental needs. May provide guidance to other Student Services Coordinators.


Education

RequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).


Work Experience

Required2 years of in office environment, higher education, or related field. Preferred3 years in an office environment, higher education, or a related field.


Experience working with university students or young adults in crisis.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.


Additional Information

Priority consideration will be given to candidate who apply on or before September 18, 2026. This is a CWA union-covered position. Work Location Indiana University Bloomington This is an in person position Advertised Salary Up to $22.35 per hour based on education and experience.
