UNC Health in Chapel Hill, NC, is offering the Student Nurse Extern I (SNE I) position for the May 2027 session. The externship provides hands-on exposure to patient care under RN supervision, designed for prelicensure nursing students within their nursing program.

You will work with an RN partner, perform routine care activities under plan of care, and participate in learning experiences across hospital and clinic settings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; higher level degree may satisfy this requirement.
• Current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months from start date.

Responsabilités

• Observe, collect, and document patient information; report changes to RN or provider.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care/treatments per plan of care (vital signs, basic care, specimen collection, wound care, glucose checks).
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation).
• Perform indirect care tasks (cleaning, restocking, transporting, clerical functions).
• Reinforce and document patient instruction.
• Assist with routine examinations and procedures; procure equipment during emergencies.
• In psychiatric settings, support patients and manage safety and milieu activities.
