Job summary

Union College in Schenectady, NY is seeking Career Assistants for the Becker Career Center. These roles support front desk operations for students, alumni, and employers, including greeting visitors and handling inquiries.

Customers will gain exposure to Handshake and career resources, with shifts Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and special events. Salary is $9.70 per hour, with three positions available.

Qualifications

• Must be eligible for Work-Study as stated in the posting.
• Candidates should show strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to handle confidential information and maintain discretion.
• Familiarity with Google Calendar and Handshake is preferred.
• Reliability, flexibility, initiative, and ability to work independently are required.
• Detail oriented with a willingness to learn and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist students, alumni, employers, faculty and staff at the front desk.
• Answer phone calls, provide information, and transfer calls as needed.
• Check in students and alumni, notify Advisor, and monitor appointment flow.
• Educate students on Handshake: profile setup, scheduling, job/internship search basics, events calendar.
• Utilize Handshake, Google Calendar, and Nexus for scheduling and tasks.
• Replenish and restock supplies and help maintain building operations.
• Keep front desk area cleaned and organized; assist in opening/closing procedures.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
