Job summary

Onslow County Public Schools Dixon Elementary in Sneads Ferry, NC seeks an Exceptional Children Personal Care Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year.

The role supports teachers and therapists in classrooms for students with disabilities, ages 3–21, and requires a high school diploma with AA preferred and ETTP certification for promotion eligibility. Ten-month term and Salary Grade 53 apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Two year AA degree preferred from regionally accredited college/university with emphasis in mathematics, reading, writing and content knowledge and a 2.5 GPA.
• Applicants with less than AA must pursue the degree during employment; eligible for promotion to teacher assistant after earned.

Responsibilities

• Follows all rules and policies of OCS and applicable regulations.
• Assists in classroom management and maintaining discipline.
• Assists students with gross motor activities (grasping, crawling, walking, running, etc.).
• Assists students with fine motor activities (toys, cutting, coloring, etc.).
• Assists students with dressing, eating, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene.
• Assists students with mobility and basic communication skills.
• Maintains and adjusts instructional equipment as needed.
• Assists therapists and other specialists.
• Records student behavior and progress data.
• Monitors safety and well-being of students at all times.
• Models ethical behavior and cooperates with staff.
• Supervises students during drills, assemblies, field trips and meals; serves as bus monitor if applicable.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
