Job summary

Onslow County Public Schools is seeking an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support teachers and therapists in caring for disabled children. Responsibilities include assisting in daily classroom activities, managing student behavior, and maintaining records of progress. Candidates should have a regionally accredited Associate's Degree, and experience working with children with disabilities is preferred. The position requires physical activity and the ability to interact positively with students.

Qualifications

• Ability to assist teachers and therapists in daily classroom activities.
• Experience in working with children with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities.
• ETTP course completion required within the first school year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in classroom/student management and maintaining discipline.
• Help children with gross and fine motor activities.
• Maintain records of student progress and behavior.

Skills

Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations

Knowledge of the care and educational needs of individuals with disabilities

Ability to work with disabled children ranging from 3 to 21 years of age

Ability to relate to and interact with disabled children

Ability to operate data entry equipment and maintain records

Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information

Ability to work cooperatively with other school personnel

Education

Two year Associate's Degree in Education preferred

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited college
