Job summary

Onslow County Schools is seeking an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year at Dixon High. The role supports teachers and therapists in daily classroom activities for students with disabilities and assists in managing student progress and behavior.

Qualifications include an associate degree with educational emphasis; ETTP certification within the first year. The position is 10 months, salary Grade 56, non-exempt, and requires standing, lifting, and active involvement

Qualifications

• Two year Associate's Degree in Education preferred.
• Associate's Degree from regionally accredited college with emphasis in mathematics, reading, writing and content knowledge.
• ETTP course completion and dated certificate must be obtained within the first school year.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers and therapists in daily classroom activities with care and education of children with disabilities.
• Assist in classroom/student management and maintaining discipline.
• Assist students on individual academic assignments.
• Assist children with gross motor activities (grasping, crawling, walking, running, holding objects).
• Assist children with fine motor activities (cutting, coloring, etc.).
• Assist with dressing, eating, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene.
• Record student behavior and progress; maintain related data.
• Perform clerical duties: attendance, incident reports, grading, displays, materials, AV equipment.
• Monitor safety and wellbeing; support digital age learning in the classroom.
